Initially under the 5th independent Missile Corps, and from 1.6.65 the 18th independent Missile Corps.

From 8.6.70 attached to the 31st Missile Army.

Organisation 1972:

• 419th Guards Missile Regiment (Kartaly, Chelyabinsk Oblast) with 6 R-36 (SS-9) silos

• 489th Missile Regiment (Kartaly, Chelyabinsk Oblast) with 6 R-36 (SS-9) silos

• 496th Missile Regiment (Kartaly, Chelyabinsk Oblast) with 6 R-36 (SS-9) silos

• 520th Missile Regiment (Kartaly, Chelyabinsk Oblast) with 6 R-36 (SS-9) silos

• 225th Missile Regiment (Kartaly, Chelyabinsk Oblast) with 6 R-36 (SS-9) silos

• 797th Missile Regiment (Kartaly, Chelyabinsk Oblast) with 6 R-36 (SS-9) silos

• 601st Missile Regiment (Kartaly, Chelyabinsk Oblast) with 6 R-36 (SS-9) silos

The first regiment was increased to 10 silos in 1975, with the introduction of the R-36M missile.

• 520th Missile Regiment (Kartaly, Chelyabinsk Oblast) with 6 R-36MUTTKh (SS-18) silos

• 225th Missile Regiment (Kartaly, Chelyabinsk Oblast) with 6 R-36MUTTKh (SS-18) silos

• 797th Missile Regiment (Kartaly, Chelyabinsk Oblast) with 6 R-36MUTTKh (SS-18) silos

• 601st Missile Regiment (Kartaly, Chelyabinsk Oblast) with 6 R-36MUTTKh (SS-18) silos

The first regiment was disbanded in 2001, followed by another in 2002.

Three regiments were disbanded 2003, one in 2004 and the last in 2005.

The division was disbanded 24.5.05.
