Activated 1.4.59 in Ussuriysk, Primorsky Krai, as the 96th Aviation (Missile) Division. Initially under 5th Air Army DA, but transferred to the 57th Artilley Range Administration in 2.60.

• 262nd Aviation (Missile) Regiment (Nikolayevka, Primorskiy Kray)

• 109th Engineering Regiment (Nikolayevka, Primorskiy Kray)

• 132nd Engineering Regiment (Barano-Orenburgskoye, Primorskiy Kray)

• 652nd Guards Engineering Regiment (Lyalichi, Primorskiy Kray)

1.7.60 renamed 45th Red Banner Missile Division.

From 10.3.61 attached to the 9th independent Missile Corps.

From August 1961 the 83rd Missile Regiment was attached to the Division.

Organisation 1962:

• 109th Missile Regiment (Nikolayevka, Primorskiy Kray) with R-12 missiles

• 132nd Missile Regiment (Barano-Orenburgskoye, Primorskiy Kray) with R-12 missiles

• 652nd Guards Missile Regiment (Lyalichi, Primorskiy Kray) with R-12 missiles

• 83rd Missile Regiment (Anadyr, Magadan Oblast) with no missiles

• 571st Missile Regiment (Novosysoevka, Primorskiy Kray) with R-14 missiles

Divisional HQ was transferred to Manzovka, Primorskiy Kray, in 1965.

From 8.6.70 attached to the 53rd Missile Army.

Disbanded in September 1970.
