Activated 1.1.61 at Aluksne, Latvia, under the 23rd Guards Missile Division, from the 157th Guards Heavy Bomber Aviation Regiment.

The regiment consisted of two battalions with each 4 R-12 (SS-4) pads, and a third battalion with 4 R-12 silos.

The first battalion went on alert duty 1.1.62 (four R-12 pads), followed by the second battalion 1.12.62 (the first two R-12 pads) and 1.1.63 (the remaining two R-12 pads). The third battalion with four R-12 silos went on alert duty 15.2.63.

From 1982 attached to the 40th Missile Division.

The 3rd battalion (four R-12 silos) stood down 16.1.84, followed by the eight R-12 pads in 1989. The regiment was disbanded shortly thereafter.

US designation: Aluksne MRBM complex (Lejasciems, Ruski and Gulbene launch sites). Type II (pad) and IV (silo) sites.

Two alternative fixed field sites for the pad launchers, were set up at Lejasciems (57 14 53N, 26 40 33E) and Gulbene (57 16 40N, 26 54 31E), but both had become inactive by 1967.
