Activated 1.7.60 at Elgava, Latvia, under the 29th Guards Missile Division (formed from a Tank Regiment).

The regiment consisted of two battalions with each 4 R-12 (SS-4) pads, and a third battalion with 4 R-12 silos.

The first battalion went on alert duty 1.1.62 (four R-12 pads), the second battalion 1.9.62 (two R-12 pads) and 1.12.62 (the remaining two pads). The third battalion went on alert duty 1.1.63 (four R-12 silos).

The third battalion stood down 1.2.80 (R-12 silos), followed by the two remaining battalions 24.5.82 (R-12 pads).

The regiment was transferred to Barnaul, Altaiskiy Kray in 1982, attached to the 35th Missile Division.

The regiment went on alert duty with 9 RSD-10 Pioner-UTTKh (15P653) (SS-20) missiles 23.12.83.

The regiment stood down 1990, and began conversion to the RT-2PM (SS-25) missile - went on alert duty 28.8.92 with 9 missiles.

US designation 1960-1982: Jelgava MRBM complex (Iecava launch sites 1 - 3). Type II (pad) and IV (silo) sites.

Two alternative fixed field sites for the pad launchers, were set up at Jelgava 1 (56 38 50N, 23 52 50E) and Jelgava 2 (56 44 15N, 23 55 00E), but both had become inactive by 1967.
