Activated 28.11.55 at Sarata, Odessa Oblast, as the 90th Fighter Aviation Regiment PVO.
1983 renamed 90th independent Assault Aviation Regiment.
Several crews served in Afghanistan (from 1st AE - 4.8.84 to 20.10.85, 2nd and 3rd AE - 19.10.85 to 4.11.86) attached to the 378th independent Assault Aviation Regiment. A few crews would remain until 2.89.
Disbanded 1989 (directive issued 22.7.89) - all aircraft was transferred to Saki, Krymskaya Oblast.
