Activated 10.84 in Bagram, Afghanistan, from parts of the 200th independent Assault Aviation Squadron.

HQ, 1st and 2nd AE were based at Bagram, with the 3rd AE at Kandahar [31 30 26N, 65 51 01E].

The three squadrons were provided from the following units:

• 80th independent Assault Aviation Regiment: two squadrons, from late 1985 to 5.88 one squadron

• 90th independent Assault Aviation Regiment: one squadron, from 10.85 to 11.86 two squadrons - 20 crews remained to 2.89

• 206th independent Assault Aviation Regiment: two squadrons from 10.88

• 368th independent Assault Aviation Regiment: one squadron from 5.88

• 187th independent Assault Aviation Regiment: crews for one squadron 10.87 to 11.88

1.1.92 taken over by Belarus - disbanded 1993.
