During the crisis in Czechoslovakia in 1968, the 3rd squadron (MiG-17F) was forward deployed to Smolensk, Smolensk Oblast [54 49 25N, 32 01 32E].

1984 based at Rzhev, Tver Oblast [56 15 40N, 34 24 31E], for a few months, while the Andreapol airfield was modernized.
