Activated 24.6.59 in Kamyshin, Volgograd Oblast.

7.2.60 transferred to the Baikonur Test Center for training with the R-7A (SS-6) missile.

15.9.60 transferred to Plesetsk, Arkhangelsk Oblast, and went on alert duty 15.7.61 with two R-7A (SS-6) pad at Area 43.

From 30.4.64 under the 1st Department, and from 1968 the 2nd Test Department.

The station stood down 25.7.67 - and on 10.9.68 renamed the 16th independent Engineering & Test Unit.

US designation: Plesetsk ICBM Complex - launch point I and II (Type I pads):

• both pads completed in 1961
• R-7A: combat training launch 21.12.65 (pad 3) and 25.7.67 (pad 4)
• R-7A variants (pad 3 (point I): 1st launch 18.2.71 (Kosmos 396) - last launch 15.10.02 (Foton-M) ended in failure, pad damaged, not repaired
• R-7A variants (pad 4 (point II): 1st launch 3.12.69 (Kosmos 313) - still in use
• pad 4 was heavily damaged in an explosion 18.3.80 (48 people killed) - pad was under repair 1980-1983, used again from 8.4.83

Plesetsk ICBM Complex - launch point I and II (I: 62 55 38N, 40 27 00E and II: 62 55 44N, 40 27 26E):
