Activated 13.10.59 in Kamenets-Podolskiy(?), Khmelnitskiy Oblast, as the 586th Guards Engineer Regiment, from the 17th Cannon Artillery Brigade. Initially attached to the 22nd Engineer Brigade RVGK.
Awards and honours was taken over from the 17th Cannon Artillery Brigade 14.1.60.
1.7.60 renamed 586th Guards Missile Regiment, now under the 44th Missile Division.
The regiment consisted of two battalions with each 4 R-12 (SS-4) pads.
The first battalion went on alert duty in 1960 (four R-12 pads), followed by the second battalion in 1961 (four R-12 pads).
15.3.65 regimental HQ was transferred to Skala-Podolskaya, Ternopol Oblast.
The regiment stood down in 1988.
The regiment was transferred to Irkutsk, Irkutsk Oblast, on 1.7.88 (29th Guards Missile Division).
US designation: Borshchev MRBM complex (Skala-Podolskaya launch sites 1 and 2). Type I (pad) sites.
The regiment went on alert duty 11.11.88 with 9 RT-2PM (15P158) (SS-25) missiles.

Two alternative fixed field sites for the pad launchers, were set up at Skala-Podolskaya (site 1: 48 53 14N, 26 13 27E and site 2: 48 52 21N, 26 16 25E), but only site 1 appeared to be active by 1967.
