Activated 14.6.60 in Stepnoy (Omsk), Omsk, Omsk Oblast under the 213th Missile Brigade, and from 5.61 the 49th Guards Missile Division.

When the 49th Guards Missile Division left for Lida 5.10.62, the regiment became independent - 290th independent Missile Regiment, now attached to the 7th independent Guards Missile Corps.

The regiment went on alert duty in 1965 with 3 R-9A (SS-8) silos at site BSP-11 (Desna-V complex), after considerable delays due to silo construction difficulties.

From 8.6.70 attached to the 33rd Guards Missile Army.

The regiment stood down in 1976, and was disbanded 9.76.

Reactivated 1992 in Yoshkar-Ola, Mariyskaya ASSR, under the 14th Missile Division.

The regiment went on alert duty 19.4.94 with 9 RT-2PM (15P158) (SS-25) missiles.
