Activated 7.6.46 in Pokrovka, Primorskiy Kray, from the 98th Guards Rifle Division.

Organisation 1947:

1.10.48 the 296th Guards Air Landing Regiment was used to activate the 13th Guards Airborne Division, and was replaced by the new 95th Guards Air Landing Regiment.

In 1949 the 95th Guards Air Landing Regiment were converted and renamed 95th Guards Parachute Regiment.

1949 the independent Landing Security Company was disbanded.

15.11.53 re-organized:

30.4.55 an independent Tank Destroyer Battalion was activated, the 576th independent Guards Self-Propelled Artillery Battalion became the 66th independent Guards Self-Propelled Artillery Battalion (military unit: 64494), and the division took over the 217th Guards Parachute Regiment from the disbanded 13th Guards Airborne Division.

In 4.56 the following units were disbanded:

6.1.59 the 243rd independent Military-Transport Aviation Squadron was activated with 10 An-2 aircraft.

1.10.76 the 896th independent Rocket Artillery Battalion was disbanded, and was absorbed by the Artillery Regiment, while the 15th independent Equipment Maintenance and Recovery Battalion was activated from the independent repair shop.

Organisation 1980:

In 1986 the 66th independent Guards Self-Propelled Artillery Battalion was disbanded, and was absorbed by the Artillery Regiment.

Organisation 1990:

1.10.92 the 300th Guards Parachute Regiment left the division, and was transferred to Abakan - 20.5.93 renamed the 300th independent Guards Parachute Regiment, and was replaced by the 331st Guards Parachute Regiment from the 106th Guards Airborne Division.

In 12.97 the 217th Guards Parachute Regiment and the 299th Guards Parachute Regiment was united as the 217th Guards Parachute Regiment.

1.5.98 the 112th independent Guards Engineering Battalion was renamed the 321st independent Guards Engineering Company, and the 100th independent Guards Anti-Aircraft Artillery Battalion was renamed the 190th independent Guards Anti-Aircraft Missile and Artillery Battery.

1.12.99 the 321st independent Guards Engineering Company was renamed the 661st independent Guards Engineering Battalion, and the 190th independent Guards Anti-Aircraft Missile and Artillery Battery was renamed the 318th independent Guards Anti-Aircraft Missile Battalion.
