Activated 1959 in Volgograd, Volgograd Oblast, as the 364th Anti-Aircraft Missile Regiment, from the 364th Anti-Aircraft Artillery Regiment (46th Anti-Aircraft Artillery Division).

Initially with 6 S-75 battalions.

Organisation 1960's (several alternate positions are still visible in the Volgograd area):

16.11.59 conducted the first combat S-75 launch in the Soviet Union, against an enemy target, when an American reconnaissance balloon was destroyed.

1968 renamed 54th Anti-Aircraft Missile Brigade.

During 1968 an independent Anti-Aircraft Missile Group with 3 launch S-200 (SA-5) battalions were added to the brigade:

An additional independent Anti-Aircraft Missile Group with 2 launch S-200 (SA-5) battalions were added in 1973:

1990 converted to the S-300PS (SA-10) missile:

1991 with 2 S-300PS (SA-10) and 5 S-200V (SA-5) battalions.

1994 reduced and renamed 1538th Anti-Aircraft Missile Regiment.

Disbanded 1998.
