Activated 30.9.55 in Mys Fiolent, Crimean Oblast, as the 51st independent Special Coastal Defence Battalion.

28.1.57 renamed 368th independent Special Coastal Defence Regiment.

30.6.60 organised into 2 battalions with the 4K87 Solka (NATO: SSC-2B Samlet), and was renamed 51st independent Coastal Missile Regiment.

In 1965 took over the 141st independent Tower Artillery Battalion with two twin 180mm MB-2-180 guns in Mys Fiolent.

In 1974 the 141st independent Tower Artillery Battalion was renamed 1267th independent Coastal Missile Battalion, and converted to the 4K40 Rubezh (SSC-3 Styx) missile in 7.75 - operational in 1978 after extensive tests of the missile system. A new 469th independent Coastal Artillery Battalion was activated to control the 180mm towers.

In 1975 the 577th independent Coastal Missile Battalion converted to the 4K44B Redut (SSC-1 Sepal).

Launch positions were in the area around 44 30 10N, 33 29 21E.

Organisation 1988:

15.1.92 disbanded, and was absorbed by the new 521st independent Coastal Missile and Artillery Brigade.
