Activated 15.6.57 in Krakow, Poland, from the 6th Infantry Division.

Organisation 1960:

20.1.64 the 6th Transport Company was renamed 6th Supply and Repair Battalion.

3.9.64 the 26th Reconnaissance and Diversion Battalion left the division, and was replaced by the new 48th Reconnaissance Company in Krakow.

4.6.66 the 35th Self-Propelled Artillery Battalion was activated (with ASU-85).

30.9.67 the 19th Airborne Battalion was renamed 18th Airborne Battalion.

In 1967 the 33rd Airborne Battalion was activated, and the 9th Airborne Battalion was rename 6th Training Airborne Battalion.

In 1975 the 8th Security Battalion was activated.

19.7.86 renamed 6th Airborne Brigade.
