Activated 3.9.55 in Szczcinek, Poland, from the 20th Mechanised Division.

Organisation 1960:

In 1961 the 73rd Engineer Battalion was renamed 7th Engineer Battalion.

16.10.61 the 8th Reconnaissance Battalion was renamed 19th Reconnaissance Company, and moved to Czarne.

7.7.67 the 20th Repair Battalion was activated from the various divisional repair shops.

30.9.67 the 20th Medium Tank Regiment was renamed 24th Medium Tank Regiment.

30.11.67 the 30th Anti-Aircraft Artillery Battalion was renamed 104th Anti-Aircraft Artillery Regiment.

In March 1968 the 19th Reconnaissance Company was renamed 8th Reconnaissance Battalion, and moved to Budowo.

In 1969 the 105th Artillery Battalion was expanded, and renamed 36th Artillery Regiment.

In 1981 the 104th Anti-Aircraft Artillery Regiment (with 57mm S-60) was disbanded, and was replaced by the 75th Anti-Aircraft Artillery Regiment (with SA-6).

1989 renamed 20th Mechanised Division.
