Activated 6.60 in Yoshkar-Ola, Mari El Republic, under the 201st Missile Brigade, and from 5.61 the 14th Missile Division.
1963 with 3 battalions at three sites:
1st Battalion - BSP-1 with 2 R-16 pads - alert duty from 12.2.62
2nd Battalion - BSP-2 with 2 R-16 pads - alert duty from 15.9.62
3rd Battalion - BSP-16 with 2 R-16 pads - alert duty from 13.12.63
In March 1964 all battalions were upgraded to regiments:
1st Battalion remained as the 690th Missile Regiment, now with 2 R-16 pads (BSP-1)
2nd Battalion became 000 Missile Regiment with 2 R-16 pads (site BSP-2)
3rd Battalion became 702nd Missile Regiment with 2 R-16 pads (site BSP-16)
In 1968 the BSP-2 and BSP-16 sites were transferred to the 690th Missile Regiment, now with:
site BSP-1: 2 R-16 pads
site BSP-2: 2 R-16 pads
site BSP-16: 2 R-16 pads
The regiment stood down 1977, and was disbanded 1.11.77.
US designation 1960-1977: Yoshkar-Ola ICBM complex (Launch site A, later launch site 1). Type IIB pads.
