Activated 6.60 in Svobodnyy, Amur Oblast, from the 259th Tank Regiment - initially under the 133rd Missile Brigade, from 5.61 the 27th Missile Division.
1963 with 2 battalions at two sites:
1st Battalion - BSP-21 with 2 R-16 pads - alert duty from 12.62 (estimate)
2nd Battalion - BSP-23 with 3 R-16 silos - alert duty from 12.64 (estimate)
In March 1964 all battalions were upgraded to regiments:
1st Battalion remained as the 565th Missile Regiment, now with 2 R-16 pads (site BSP-21)
2nd Battalion became 000 Missile Regiment with 3 R-16 silos (site BSP-23)
In 1968 the BSP-21 site was transferred to the 000 Missile Regiment, and the regiment was transferred to Dombarovskiy, Orenburg Oblast, under the 13th Missile Division.
The regiment went on alert duty 25.12.69 with 6 R-36 (8K67) (SS-9) missiles at site BRK-8.
The regiment stood down in 1978, and began conversion to the R-36MUTTKh (SS-18 missile) - alert duty from 14.9.79.
Disbanded 2003.
