Activated 1953 in Novovorenino, Moscow Oblast - initially as the 1939th Anti-Aircraft Artillery Regiment for Special Use and from 1955 as the 624th Anti-Aircraft Missile Regiment for Special Use.

1953 to 1988 equipped with 60 S-25 (SA-1) launchers:

• Launch area: 56 10 10N, 37 49 44E (US designation: Moscow SAM site C02-1)
• Support area: 56 09 14N, 37 50 08E
• Guidance area: 56 08 58N, 37 49 00E

1988 converted to the S-300PT (from 1991: S-300PM) (SA-10), and was reduced to an independent Anti-Aircraft Missile Battalion of the 566th Anti-Aircraft Missile Regiment.
