Activated 3.8.60 in Vasilkov, Kiev Oblast, as the 500th Guards Anti-Aircraft Missile Regiment, from the 39th Guards Fighter Aviation Regiment PVO.

7.62 the four S-75 (SA-2) battalions were transferred to Cuba, although the regiment staff remained at Nikopol, Dnepropetrovsk Oblast.

4.63 took over three S-75 (SA-2) battalions from the 858th Anti-Aircraft Missile Regiment.

Six S-125 (SA-3) battalions (including 2 mobilisation) were activated in 1967.

22.5.68 renamed 208th Guards Anti-Aircraft Missile Brigade.

1968 with 3 S-75 (SA-2) and 6 S-125 (SA-3) battalions (including 2 mobilisation).

Organisation late 1960's:

In 1969 an independent Anti-Aircraft Missile Group with 3 launch S-200 (SA-5) battalions were added to the brigade:

4.75 awarded the Red Banner.

One S-75 battalion was disbanded 15.6.89.

1991 with 3 S-200 (SA-5), 2 S-75 (SA-2) and 6 S-125 (SA-3) battalions.

Taken over by Ukraine 1.6.92.
