In 6.66 the 187th Motorised Rifle Regiment was used to activate the 197th Motorised Rifle Division, and was replaced by the new 517th Motorised Rifle Regiment.

In 1968 the 227th independent Sapper Battalion was renamed 227th independent Engineer-Sapper Battalion.

In 1972 the 000 independent Chemical Defence Company was renamed 81st independent Chemical Defence Battalion.

15.11.72 re-organised:

The division was to have been transferred to Afghanistan in 12.79, but in the end, only the 186th Motorised Rifle Regiment was transferred - the regiment arrived in Termez 1.1.80, and crossed into Afghanistan during the night 3/4.1.80 - 1.3.80 was renamed 66th independent Motorised Rifle Brigade - replaced by the new 385th Motorised Rifle Regiment.

In 1980 the 52nd independent Motor Transport Battalion was renamed 395th independent Material Supply Battalion.
