Activated 25.6.57 in Sapernoye, Leningrad Oblast, from the 64th Guards Rifle Division.

20.6.62 three additional regiments were activated for use in Cuba:

All three were transferred to Cuba by ship from Liepaya and Kronshtadt in juli and august 1962, and were later (8.9.62) renamed 74th, 106th and 43rd independent Motorised Rifle Regiments.

In 1968 the 75th independent Guards Sapper Battalion was renamed 75th independent Guards Engineer-Sapper Battalion.

In 1980 the 000 independent Motor Transport Battalion was renamed 1482nd independent Material Supply Battalion.

Organisation 1980:

In 1987 the 315th Guards Tank Regiment was reduced and renamed 83rd independent Tank Battalion.

1.6.97 renamed 36th Guards Weapons and Equipment Storage Base.
