Formed 10.41 in Luftgau IV with 1. - 5. Batterien (3. from 3./122). Until 7.42 known as Res.Flak-Abt. 531.

Reorganised as a schwere Abteilung in mid-42:

4./Res.531 became 3./879, and was reformed
5./Res.531 became 4./879

5. - 7./s.531 was formed in late 1943 (5. from 5./615, 6. new, 7. from s.Flak-Bttr.zbV 5928 [RAD]).

6./s.531 became b.mot. in 9.44, and moved to the western front. In 12.44 renamed 3./601.
